Smoke Fired Ceramic Tiles
Each decorative tile is handmade and unique, recording the plants growing in the West Highlands. They can be hung on the wall individually or in a grouping using the ribbon loop attached to the back. The tiles can also be set with plain tiles in a fire surround or displayed mounted onto board or canvas. The tiles are first fired in an electric kiln then smoked in a pit firing with the flames from the fire, the smoke and the different organic materials such as mosses, bark and straw creating the unique colours and patterns on each tile. Highlights of glaze and gold paint are added to some tiles to complement the smoked markings. |
